The Department of International Trade of Soochow University was established in 1974 with the aim of nurturing talents for Taiwan’s international trade, a sector that has been closely tied to Taiwan’s economic development. With more than 40 years of strenuous efforts by all the directors who had led the department since the establishment, the development of the department in terms of organizational structure and system have become more comprehensive. In order to upgrade the professional and research capability of Taiwan’s international trade sector, the department launched a full-time Master’s program in 1997, and further introduced a part-time Master’s program in 2002 to provide not just further education to working professionals but also a forum for industry-academia collaborations and exchanges.
We are fully aware that Taiwan’s economic and trade landscape has been reshaped by the fast growing outbound investments in the context of the fast moving economic and trade environment of the world. As such, we are aiming to foster talents that meet the up-to-date needs of international trade and business by designing a curriculum that emphasizes the trainings of foreign languages and professional trade and business studies. In order to better reflect the characteristics of the department, the department was renamed as “The Department of International Business” in August 2007. In 2017, the department received the accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
