Our History

The Chang Fo-chuan Center for the Study of Human Rights at Soochow University was established by an initiative group of interdisciplinary academics in 2000, realizing that Taiwan’s hard-earned democracy must be consolidated by human rights awareness and education.

Everything we do is collaborated through partnership with local and international organizations at the forefront of maintaining rights and peace of human being. We empower the vulnerable groups through advocacies, workshops and researches, to press government and society to take actions. The undergraduate and graduate students we taught and trained have taken leadership positions with NGOs, media, and community development at the service of social change.

In the context of Taiwan’s intricate international relations and tensions with China, which present a significant challenge to regional and global peace, our work – equipping students with a solid understanding of human rights and the skill needed to contribute to the ultimate goal of sustainable global peace – is more important than ever.

Our Mission

The Chang Fo-chuan Center for the Study of Human Rights at Soochow University is committed to human rights education for undergraduate and graduate students; advancing interdisciplinary research and understanding of human rights.
