Seeking Part-Time Work or Internships in Taiwan
Please take special note!
International students who wish to work or intern in Taiwan, whether on or off campus,
campus, must obtain a work permit before commencing employment.
Students who work without the required permit may face fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000.

For internships that are part of a university internship course, students must comply with the regulation that off-campus internship credits per semester must not exceed 9 credits, with 1 credit corresponding to a maximum of 80 hours of internship.

1. Eligibility

Foreign students studying at public or officially registered private universities in Taiwan under the “Regulations Regarding the Study of Foreign Students in Taiwan.”

Overseas Chinese students admitted under the “Regulations Regarding the Admission and Counseling of Overseas Chinese Students Returning to Study in Taiwan.”

Students from Hong Kong or Macau admitted under the “Regulations Regarding Hong Kong and Macau Residents Studying in Taiwan.”
2. Required Documents (All documents must be uploaded in PDF format)

Completed online personal information form (create an account first via the application website).

Photocopy of student ID (front and back) with school registration stamp, or proof of current enrollment for the semester.

Proof of at least one year of language course study (if enrolled in a language center).

Copy of a valid passport.

Additional documentation for foreign students may be required, such as proof of financial need, school-related work, or special language skills. Foreign students with approved special language skills by the Ministry of Education may serve as language instructors without additional documentation, but must provide the Ministry’s approval.
3. Online Application Procedure

Pay the review fee (NT$100 per person) via postal transfer to:

Register an account on the Workforce Development Agency “Work Permit Application for Foreign Professionals” webpage.

After registration, log in and select Case Management > Student Case Management > Add New Application, and input the required information.

After completing the postal transfer, enter the transaction date, branch number, and postal transfer receipt number in the system.

Click Upload Case.

Submit to school for review by clicking Submit for School Review.

Track application status via Case Management > Student Case Management > Student Inquiry and Maintenance.

4. Other Regulations
-
Work permits for foreign students, overseas Chinese, and Hong Kong/Macau students are valid for up to 6 months. Outside summer and winter breaks, students may work up to 20 hours per week.

Failure to comply may result in permit revocation and fines from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000.

Copies of documents must include the statement “True copy of original” and be signed or stamped by the applicant.

According to the “Regulations on Employer Hiring and Management of Foreigners,” formally enrolled students can apply upon admission, while foreign students enrolled in language programs must complete at least 1 year of study before applying.
5. Students who take a leave of absence or withdraw must return their valid work permits to the school counseling office.
6. Permit Validity

Applications in the first semester: valid until March 31 of the following semester

Applications in the second semester: valid until September 30 of the same year

Cross-semester applications must include proof of registration for the next semester; the maximum validity period is 6 months.
7. In-Person Pick-Up
Applicants wishing to collect the permit in person must submit a “Declaration for Personal Collection” and present the receipt at the designated counter within the specified timeframe. Overdue permits will be mailed.

Note: Overseas Chinese students admitted under counseling programs are not eligible for work permits if they transfer or enroll in certain continuing education programs, including night schools or distance learning programs.
