Education Objective

The objective of college education aims to search for strategies that assist people in solving encountered problems. We believe that business organization is one effective method In addition to professional training, we also hope that our business administration education will help students to develop real problem-solving abilities, macroscopic vision, and a strong tendency to succeed in meeting the needs of the changing environment of the future. In order to achieve this ideal, we set up educational objectives respectively for the undergraduate program, MA program, and MBA program, hoping to cultivate T-typed managerial talents equipped both with width and expertise, to promote both theoretically and realistically practiced teaching and research, to emphasize the cultivation of students’ attitude and ability, and to broaden students’ global vision and diverse development.

Undergraduate Program Curriculum Overview

 

In order to meet the education objectives of Soochow University, and to assist students in developing core competence so that they can reach self-understanding, determine study directions, complete individual competitiveness, the Department has set up a package of core competence indicators for the undergraduates and has built up their connection with all courses. Through course design and teaching plans, each competence indicator is very likely to be developed and meets the education objectives of the department. Through correspondence between each subject and the indicator, students can also plan their own study map to strengthen single ability or develop diverse abilities.

The undergraduate curriculum can be divided into two categories: "the general curriculum” focused on developing general basic knowledge and "the specialized curriculum” focused on students’ professional skills, which are represented in the curriculum concept map respectively by circles and triangles.

Circles: Basic Curriculum, Core Curriculum, Core Extension Curriculum, Integrated Curriculum

Triangles: Financial Management, Marketing Management, Operation and Supply Chain Management

General curriculum can be divided into four levels:

  • Basic Curriculum: including university and college common courses, courses on basic concept of business administration, and courses related to the development of basic skills such as computer and mathematics. 
  • Core Curriculum: introduction to administration issues on all managerial functions.
  • Core Extension Curriculum: courses related to training administrative skills and working abilities, including aspects of organization, human resources, leadership, communication, techniques and instruments, legal and institutional environment.
  • Integrated Curriculum: mainly exploring the specific problems encountered by different industries or different types of enterprises.

Specialized curriculum can be divided into three professional fields:

  • Financial Management: Besides the traditional corporate finance, emphasis is also put on new financial products, investment banks, financial risks, and financial planning.
  • Marketing Management: In addition to courses on consumer behavior, marketing research, and advertising, the courses include newly triggered issues such as consumer service and management, and e-commerce. It also offers marketing courses specifically for service industry.  
  • Operation and Supply Chain Management: The Supply Chain Management courses include stages of the whole process from purchase, warehouse, logistics, transportation, to commercial circulation. The courses on enhancing service quality include service sector operation and total quality management.

Curriculum Map for graduates:

 

The graduate program of the Department primarily focuses on developing students’ independent thinking, problem-analyzing and problem-solving abilities. Professional fields include Organization and Human Resource Management, Marketing and Information Management, Financial Management, Supply Chain and Logistics Management. Besides, the Department allows students to take all courses offered either by the MA class or by the MBA class to facilitate interactions among students, giving full-time students the opportunity to understand practical problems. In addition, the course-taking style enlarges the number of courses for all students to take.

In the MA and MBA program, the Department offers 5 professional programs: Marketing Management, Operation Management, Financial Management, Supply Chain and Logistics Management, Operation and Human Resource Management.
