Course: Introduction to Forensic Science

Brief description: Course materials include the basic knowledge of the crime scene, introduction of the crime scene investigationprocedures, techniques and evidence collection of crime scene, evidence examination and analysis ofcrime scene reconstruction (details as listed below). Through the analysis and discussion method of the actual crime cases, as well as analysis and discussion of the way through the actual crime cases (including cases of homicide, suicide and accidents, etc.), the course helps learners to fully understand the actual operations of forensiccriminal investigation and to establish a deep understanding of the forensic psychology, forensic expertise,technical expertise and work attitude onforensic work and crime scene investigation, thus to enhance significantly the professional capability of crime sceneinvestigation.

 

Course: Forensic Physics

Brief description: Introduction to the physics-based forensic methods of forensic science. Using videos and introduction ofbasic physics together helps students to understand the physical methods used in the forms and methods of forensic science. The course tends to be understandable and with popularity, allowing students of non-physics major to understand easily.

 

Course: Forensic Chemistry

Brief Description: Students who complete this course will be able to:  

1. Understand how to apply scientific chemical methodsto investigate the evidence of the crime scene.
2.
Explain, in writing or oral presentation, the process and procedure of forensic evidence collection.
3.
Understand the basic principles of forensic chemistry, such as glass and soil analysis, analysis of drugs and other organic compounds and review of other chemical-related evidence.

 

Course: Forensic Biology

Brief Description: The most important feature of biology isdiversity. Therefore, knowledge and technology of identifying a variety of biology has its importance in academic researchand real life, for example, forensic identification of the newly discovered species, smuggled protected species. This course will introduce the basic principles of forensic biology, the required basic technology, and the practical applications, hoping to help students who are interested in this field to gain basic knowledgefor further study.

 

Course: Analytical Methods in Organic Chemistry

Brief Description: The course helps student to determine the stereo-chemical structure of organic compounds from the spectral data [[1H-, 13C-NMR, 2D NMR (COSY, NOESY, HMQC, HMBC, INADEQUATE), MS, HRMS, IR, UV, etc.] and practically apply to the identification of the natural product in organic chemistry, drug synthesis, functional group conversion, organic synthesis, and research on reaction mechanism.

 

Course: Crime Scene Investigation

Brief Description: Course materials include the basic knowledge of the crime scene, introduction of the crime scene investigationprocedures, techniques and evidence collection of various evidence, evidence examination and analysis of crime scene reconstruction(details as listed below). Course: Genetics

Brief Description:  Geneticsis not only one of the three major disciplines of modern biology, it also helps scientists to fully decode the genetic blueprints of countless species on earth with the developments of modern genetics techniques. The knowledge accumulated from thedecoded genome allows us to glimpse into the evolutionprocess of life on earth and the mystery of how species has developed from a linear form with genetic message into a stereo-living organism. Thus, thecourse has four goals. First, by introducing the history of genetic researchand the research process of modern molecular genetics and genomics, students can understand the importance, contribution, and possible future developments of genetic research; second, understand the basic theories and principles of bio-genetic characteristics, and apply them in a practical way; third, introduce the genetic research in the technology and developments of modern molecular genetics, as the foundation of studying genetics-related courses in the future; fourth, understand the evolution process and mechanisms of living species on earth and the position, held by human beings, in the structure of living species on earth.

 

Course:  Molecular Biology

Brief Description: Teach the core concepts of molecular biology; enhance the establishment in the field ofmolecular microbiology; explore the structure and function of genes at the molecular level includingan introduction of related technology for molecular biological experiments, so that students, who enroll in the class, can gain knowledge of molecular microbiology and cell microbiology; develop the ability in analyzing actual experimental data and reasoning; and are capable of collecting and organizing data, as well as written and oral presentation. Thus, students will have comprehensive understanding and awareness of basic knowledge and the latest research direction of molecular biology. 

 

Course:  Criminal Psychology

Brief Description: This course focuses on exploring the causes of crime and the issue of bias from the psychological point of view, how the psychology and helping professionals in the criminal justice system are implemented, the psychological characteristics of various types of offenders, in order to guide students to understand thevarious types of crime and deviant behavior problems, the operational concept of the criminal justice system, as well as how the helping professionals provide their expertise in the criminal justice system, to helpworking parties to correct improvementsand social reintegration.

 

 

Course:  Criminal Evidence Law

Brief DescriptionA crime shall be proved by evidence, as expressly stated in Article 154, item 2 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The "Criminal Evidence Law" is that professionalforensic specialists use technical instruments or tools for identification on the collected evidence left in the crime scene as the evidence in court to determine whether the defendant has committed a crime or not. The objectsof criminal evidence includes (sampling) evidence obtained from traces of blood,ballistics, knife marks, hair, body fluids, medicines, fibers, fingerprints, palm prints, skin wrinkles, in order to restore the crime scene or identify the truth. Furthermore, advanced technology of DNA identification is also used for distinguishing human identification that can reach nearly 100 percents accuracy. This is the scientific investigation, which shifts the investigation from emphasizing defendant confessions to "evidence” oriented. No matter if in the investigation stageor trial stage, criminal evidence is obviously important. Therefore, with the results of criminal evidence available, how to present the results concretely in court as the basis of concluded facts will require to be familiar with the operations of National Criminal Legal Procedure.
