History：

During the 2nd semester of the 94th academic year (1st February 2006), the General Education Center was established as the first administrative section at Soochow university in order to facilitate the planning of general education, and the operation of education, research, administration, and other areas. In the 1st semester of the 102nd academic year (1st August 2013), for the good of integrating administrative resources in the campus, the Center was categorized as under the Office of Academic Affairs.

The Director is in charge of the General Education Center and it is held as a part-time position by an associate professor or above. There are 2 full-time administration staff members in charge of promoting the core courses and general education courses. In addition, the "General Education Committee" has been set up to plan, promote, and evaluate the general education curriculum. The committee offers professional advice to the examination acts and course regulations related to the general education curriculum, including course objectives, classification of course field, making of course titles, arrangement of study grades, addition/reduction of credits, alteration of courses, and so on.

Mission：

1. Planning, coordinating, and executing general education courses and core courses.
2. Holding meetings of the General Education Committee, and supporting relevant administrative affairs.
3. Providing administrative support for planning, examining, and arranging courses.
4. Organizing affairs of Master’s course lectures and the recruitment of teachers.
5. Recruiting, contacting, and training teaching assistants of the Master’s course lectures.
6. Organizing and promoting affairs of general education and aesthetics activities.
7. Coordinating curriculums and administrations.
8. Discussing and expanding ideals and goals of general education.
9. Evaluating and improving the curriculum.
10. Planning, integrating, and enriching the resources of general education.
11. Dealing with relevant affairs of general education.
