What's in T School 才華人生從Talent School開始

The School of Liberal Arts and Social Science will launch a T-School selecting its first cohort across departmental majors for an innovative approach fostering students’ creativity with entrepreneurial/industrial connection that manifests what Huminites and Arts can provide through various types of projects. Based on the deliverables of the project, which takes 12-18 months, Soochow could provide a venture fund for the students in their junior and senior year to continue their entrepreneurial ventures prepare for their future careers. Dean Mi will sponsor an IQP looking for best approaches/models of running the T School.

This project is built upon the rich humanistic traditions and foundations of Soochow University, combining innovative digital information technology and creative cultural and artistic industries. Whether interpreted from the perspective of "digital humanities" or "humanities in the digital field," this project anticipates providing a platform for meaningful dialogue between digital technology and humanities and developing a genuinely human-centric cradle for cultivating innovative digital talent. Its ultimate goal is to nurture a deep well of humanistic knowledge and aesthetic sensibility in Taiwan's future digital technology professionals, embodying the core principle and ultimate objective of T School.

What’s in T School

T School is based by "Digital enhances the value of the humanities, while the humanities also enhance the value of the digital." This project is led by a team of interdisciplinary educators who aim to rekindle students' passion for learning. In T School, every class is a hands-on workshop. Unlike traditional academic courses, students' assignments in T School might include a TED talk, an AI-generated art piece, a podcast episode, a short video, or even a startup presentation. The learning journey at T School begins in September and concludes with a proposal and implementation competition in July of the following year (requiring completion of a full academic year). Students who meet the graduation requirements will receive a certificate from the college, earn academic credits, and may even compete for many "Project Competition Scholarships."

★ Curriculum Structure: Divided into three main parts

(1). College Elective Courses: Collaboration between the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and faculty members from the Chinese, History, Philosophy, and Sociology departments to curate a list of courses available for students to choose from. Particularly, courses related to the integration of digital technology and humanities.

(2). College Core Courses: Mandatory courses for every T School student, emphasizing a project approach and group training to enhance students' proposal skills, communication skills, and creative abilities.

(a) Introduction to Creative Industries in Digital Humanities (One Semester)

(b) Communication Skills Training Course (One Academic Year)

(c) Proposal and Implementation Competition (One Academic Year)

(3). Workshop Elective Courses: Choose one of two elective courses, with a total duration of 20 hours. These include "Weekday Courses" and "Weekend Workshops." Currently planned options are "Artificial Intelligence Art Creation Workshop" and "Podcast Discussion and Creation Workshop."

★ Three Key Features

(1). T School calculates completion based on the number of courses rather than credits.

(2). T School's educational approach resembles a studio-based operational model rather than the traditional classroom model.

(3). T School places a strong emphasis on projects over grades, recognizing that projects are the most effective learning medium in the age of technology.

We look forward to breaking away the traditional higher education learning models and extend a sincere invitation to students from WPI's Project-Based Learning program to collaborate with students from Soochow University and nearby Wesley Girls High School in forming a cross-cultural research team next spring. Together, we hope to approach T School from different perspectives to identify specific recommendations and its value proposition in the future of education.
